The New Slashdot: Looks a Bit Like the Old!
Posted by Jason Matheson on April 10, @08:22pm from the designing-on-a-mac dept.
Introduction. The thing about redesigning Slashdot is, when it's all said and done I still want it to feel like the original. The logo, color scheme, article flow; it's all part of what defines Slashdot. This website has been a part of our lives for over 10 years, the good, the bad and the ugly. Certainly the original has a lot of good, heck the layout is used on almost every news website, which must mean something. But it also has a lot of bad and ugly when it comes to fonts, spacing and consistency.

About this mockup. Read more works and does not have ads. Clicking on the title bar of any menu element will collapse (or expand) it, which could be a neat way to further clean up the page (have some elements collapsed by default). The only element missing on purpose would be the topic icons at the top of the page, search is more useful. This mockup has not been debugged in IE, I'll do this only if it looks like it might win :-)
